Ducking and Diving with the Lord!

What does the slang ‘Ducking and diving mean’?

Have you ever asked a child why did you do that? The child responds, but mummy, Jack made me do it. You respond: ‘Have l not told you not to do that’. The child responds, but mummy Jack made me do it. You respond, l told you not to do that, now this is your punishment movie tonight cancelled and in addition to that, l will tell your Dad when he comes back from work. Child responds, O! Mummy, okay l am sorry for what l did. This is a good example of ducking and diving. The child should have taken full responsibility for his/her actions in the first place and say sorry.

Its amazing how sometimes we do not come clean and open to the Lord. We do something wrong and instead of taking full responsibility we play the blame game or ‘paraphrase the sin game’. Well Lord, you understand, l really did not want to do that, but brother J made me do it. Have we forgotten that the eyes of the Lord are everywhere?

I think as Christians this is a very dangerous game to play as it reflects the state of the heart. 1 John 1 , 9 & 10 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

When we sin, we need to take full responsibility and go the Lord and tell Him exactly what we did wrong and ask for His forgiveness and He will forgive us. Not only will He forgive us He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Lord wants our hearts to be pure; being open and honest with the Lord is an attribute of a pure heart.

Psalm 24:3-4 (a)

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;

Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

2 Timothy 2:22

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

The Lord wants our hearts to be pure towards Him, and l believe that this is one reason why David was described as a man after Gods own heart .

Acts 13:22 (King James Version)

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Yes David did miss the mark, but he took responsibility for his actions and sought the Lord.

Have you ever read the book of Psalms and seen how David was open to the Lord?

When David sinned with Bathesba, against the Lord, he took full responsibility. Lets look at parts of Psalm 55:

3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise when thou judgest.

The Lord really loves us. He died for us, the ultimate price anyone can pay. The least we can do, is come clean with Him.

Lets start being honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our actions, and as we do us, the Lord will continue to show Himself strong on our behalf.

The compliment, “a man after My own heart”, is one that

should characterize every person who wears the name of Christ.

Food for thought!

It isn’t what the book costs; it’s what it will cost if you don’t read it.

What you are watching happened at the Bay of the Holy Spirit Revival on August 27, 2010. Many people in Mobile, AL have known Bishop Levy Knox and his wife Delia for many years. Delia was injured in a car accident on Christmas Day, 1987, and was paralyzed from the waist down.
